Check your product photos for Google Lens and visual search

Drop your product photos to see what visual search sees: size, sharpness, background, framing, contrast and exposure, measured against Google's published image requirements. Every photo gets a pass, a warning or a fail, with what to fix. Nothing is uploaded.

  • Based on Google's published rules
  • Pass, warning or fail per photo
  • Nothing uploaded

Built in your browser: nothing is uploaded.

Google doesn't publish how Lens recognizes products. These checks follow Google Merchant Center's published image requirements, and common product photography practice where Google gives no number. Google Lens is a trademark of Google LLC; this tool isn't affiliated with Google.

    What the checker measures

Everything here can be fixed in the photo itself.

    • Size

Google Merchant Center requires at least 500 × 500 pixels for every product from 31 January 2027, already warns about smaller images, and recommends about 1500 × 1500.

    • Sharpness

Blur is measured on the product, so a soft background behind a sharp product is fine. Google's image guide favors sharp, clear photos.

    • Framing

Merchant Center recommends a product filling 75 to 90% of the image. We also check it's centered and not cut off, and flag shapes other than square or 4:5.

    • Background and contrast

A plain background, and a product that stands out from it, make the product easy to isolate. Google prefers white for merchant listings but doesn't require it.

    • Exposure

A photo too dark overall, or highlights burnt out on the product itself.

    • Format and file

Merchant Center refuses files over 16 MB or 64 megapixels, and doesn't take AVIF.

    Based on what Google publishes

Sizes, file limits, formats and the 75 to 90% framing come from Google Merchant Center's image requirements. They also exclude borders, watermarks, promotional text and placeholders: check those yourself, as this tool doesn't read text or logos.

Google gives no number for sharpness, exposure, background or contrast. Those are measured with common product photography rules, and the results say so.

    What Google doesn't publish

Google doesn't publish how Lens recognizes products or ranks visual matches. So this isn't a Google score, and no tool can promise your products will appear.

    Something else? hello@imageseoforai.com

How do I get my products to show up in Google Lens?

Google doesn't publish how Lens chooses its results. Products eligible for free listings in Google Merchant Center can appear in Lens. What you control: sharp photos of the product filling most of the frame, on pages that describe it, and accurate product data.

What image size does Google recommend for product photos?

Google Merchant Center recommends about 1500 × 1500 pixels or more. From 31 January 2027, every product image needs at least 500 × 500 pixels, and Merchant Center already warns about smaller ones. Files can't exceed 16 MB or 64 megapixels.

How much of the image should the product fill?

Merchant Center recommends 75 to 90% of the image. Smaller, the product is hard to see in results; larger, it risks being cut off when the image is cropped.

Does the background have to be white?

Google doesn't require it for the main product image, but its merchant listing documentation prefers photos showing the product clearly, for example on white. Amazon requires pure white for main images. A plain, light background is the safe choice.

Are watermarks or text on product photos allowed?

Not on Merchant Center's product images: watermarks, promotional text, prices, added logos and borders can get them disapproved. This checker doesn't read text or logos, so check those yourself.

    How is sharpness measured?

By how sharply brightness changes between neighboring pixels, on a copy of the photo scaled to 512 pixels, keeping the sharpest parts of the product. Google publishes no sharpness threshold: ours is our own, so a warning is advice, not a rule.

    Is this a Google tool?

No. It's independent and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Google. It follows the image rules Google publishes. Google Lens is a trademark of Google LLC.

    Are my photos uploaded?

No. Your browser measures each photo on your device: nothing is sent anywhere.
